Museum of Wellington City & Sea

Continuing on the series for Places to visit in Wellington, the museum of Wellington and Sea is an important and one the most renowned tourist attraction. The Museum of Wellington celebrates its social, cultural and maritime history. Housed in the historic Bond Store, the original architecture complements the exhibitions of precious objects and stunning technology.

  The Museum is located at the heart of Wellington's Waterfront and is 2 minutes from Lambton Quay and the Cable Car. There are quite a few must watch video clips, about 5 minutes duration each, briefing of its summary and importance. The Museum also has some beautiful artefacts and statues.

Te Papa Tongarewa

As covered in the introduction blog, in this series we are going to discover Wellington. Today we are going to cover one of the most famous Museums in Wellington. Regarded as the symbol for Nationhood and Heritage, Arts and Culture, of New Zealand, the ‘Te Papa Tongarewa'.


'Te Papa Tongarewa', literally means ‘container of treasures'. The name is made up of two classical expressions used in Māori poetry and song.  Te Papa is New Zealand’s national museum, renowned for being bicultural, scholarly, innovative, and fun. Located at, 55 Cable Street, in the heart of the city is 10 minutes’ walk from Queens Wharf.

The best time to visit Wellington is spring as the winter is not that harsh and the sun in not beaming down as it usually does in summer. It really blows in spring. So if you are not familiar with winds, you need to be prepared for it. The average temperature is around 12◦C - 16◦C. The may be few spells of rain might make your travel trip memorable but nothing that would obstruct your plans drastically. The most common and convenient way to move around the city of Wellington is by walking. This will help you to remain fit and agile. But in case you cannot walk there are private Taxi available which as per standard are on the costlier side.
